The single bit abstractor has an evaluator stage (B) that receives digital input data in the form of data sequence (E). The transmission function of the evaluator is given by p(n) = 2n-1, for n = (1, if E=1, 0, if E=0'). The output `p' is received by the first input to a decision stage (E10). A further input receives the original data (E12) and upper and lower thresholds (Fmax, Fmin) may be set. The circuit provides an activation function (F) that is defined in terms of these parameters. The output f(z), is given by, f(z) = (0 for Z less than 0, E for Z = 0, and 1 for Z greater than 0). ADVANTAGE - Identifies original form from modified signal.
