The oil circuit has two oil reservoirs, which are an engine sump (5) and a topping-up chamber (3). An oil pump (7) extracts oil from the sump and passes it through an oil-cooler (11) to a dual oil filter (8) connected across a by-pass valve. The main filter (13) accepts 92% of the flow and the auxiliary filter (14) accepts 5%. The remaining unfiltered 3% passes to the topping-up chamber. The main filter output goes to the engine (4) lubricating points while the auxiliary filter output and the output from the topping-up chamber go to the sump. The topping-up chamber has a piston-like volume reducer (16) controlled electrically by a sensor (25) periodically detecting the level of oil in the sump. ADVANTAGE - Simple system maintains oil sump level preventing flooding or starvation.
