Thermoplastic material and fabric bonding - by heating plastic across width by pressure against heated plate followed by pressure on applied fabric
Thermoplastic material and fabric bonding - by heating plastic across width by pressure against heated plate followed by pressure on applied fabric
To achieve a firm bond between a wide thermoplastic material surface and an equally wide textile material, the operation is in cycles where, in the first step, part of the thermoplastic material is heated across its whole width by pressure against a heated plate. In a second step, the heated thermoplastic, is bonded with an overlaid textile material through pressure over the whole width. Pref. the thermoplastic material is a geo grid, with upwards and downwards projections at the intersections, using polypropylene or polyester as the thermoplastic material. The textile material is a nonwoven felting, a woven or knitted fabric. USE/ADVANTAGE - The material is for use as a geo grid where a nonwoven and the like, is bonded to a thermoplastic gridding. The technique gives a firm bonding, where projections from the thermoplastic grid are held up and down at the intersections by biaxial strech without loss of mol. orientation.
