Recording and reproducing terminal appts. for audio information network - enables recorded audio signals to be transmitted over wire or fibre for reception at distant terminal
Recording and reproducing terminal appts. for audio information network - enables recorded audio signals to be transmitted over wire or fibre for reception at distant terminal
Audio signals are recorded and played back by, e.g. cassette tape recorders (4) at terminals (1,2) coupled by modems (5) to the ends of a telephone line (3), which may be a conventional copper wire or a glass fibre with optical waveguide diodes and matching amplifiers. The signals may be converted to digital form for transmission without losses and independently of line quality. A clock or timer (6) at one terminal may provide for time-shifted audio transmission. USE/ADVANTAGE - Musical compsns. and audio messages may be transmitted to private households having no facsimile equipment, without operator intervention.
