Seat belt air bag (1) for a vehicle having a belt (4) width an upper fixing point (11) on the vehicle cabin wall and a lower fixing point on the seat belt roller unit (7), with an extension to a seat belt buckle (8). The belt has an air bag (12) between the upper fixing point and the seat belt buckle; alternatively the system can employ a frontal air bag (14) and a side air bag (19). ADVANTAGE - Automatically adjusts to the body mass of the restrained person and so allows the person sufficient freedom of movement.
