Solid state laser with distributed feedback - has phase discontinuity formed in waveguide grating structure to provide accurate mode selection for specific wavelength operation
The distributed feedback laser is formed with a substrate (2), an active zone(3) and a waveguide grating (4) as an integrated structure. The waveguide (4) operates as a wavelength selective feedback unit. The end surfaces of the laser (5,6) are finished for suppression of Fabry-Perot modes. This is provided by making the surfaces non-reflecting. A phase discontinuity (7) is set for mode selection and the location and size provides for operation in a specific wavelength region. ADVANTAGE - Reduced line width with ease of adjustment.
