Sized cotton dyeing - using bath contg. reactive dye and combination of inorganic wetting agent, foam suppressant and complexing agent

A process is claimed for dyeing un-pretreated, CMC-sized woven cellulose-based fabric (I) by the cold retention dyeing method using, in addn. to a water-soluble reactive dyestuff (II), a combination of additives contg. (A) an inorganic wetting agent with dye-dissolving properties, (B) a low-foam wetting agent from foam suppressant properties and (C) a complexing agent. Also claimed is a wetting agent (B). ADVANTAGE - The process gives the same results (wet friction resistance, light fastness, C4A wash) as conventional pretreatment, but with fewer stages, reduced machine usage, less working space and lower labour costs. In some cases the depth of colour is increased by 4-12%, and rewetting is comparable to that in the conventional process; the treated fabric has a softer feel, so that the amt. of softener can be halved, and a longer service life (esp. towelling).
