Eletrode for spot welding is made of a Cu-baked material coated with a Sn layer in the areas which come into contact with the parts to be welded. USE/ADVANTAGE - For spot welding Al pts. The Sn coating minimises the wear on the tips and increases the work life of the electrode. Pref. the Sn layer is 0.03-400 microns thick and is produced by plating or soldering onto the Cu body. Pt of the Sn is diffused into the Cu so that the epsilon phase of an intermetallic cpd. of Cu-Sn is formed. The main body is Cu, Cu-alloy or Al oxide dispersion hardened Cu.
