The electrode structure of a liq. crystal display field comprises electrodes formed on a glass substrate (11). The structure includes a first electrode pattern of electrode segments (17) on the glass substrate (11). These electrodes (17) have a low surface resistivity of 20 to 70 ohms per square. A second electrode pattern (20) includes an electrode with a high surface resistivity of about 1 Mohm per square. This is formed such that at least part of the low resistance electrode pattern (17) is covered. ADVANTAGE - Prevents sparking and interference between electrodes due to static charging.
