The wind generator has several umbrella-type sails made from cables held aloft by two hydrogen cylinders and carrying various "umbrellas" down their length. The ground end is anchored to a turntable on a wagon running on steel rails so that changing wind direction can be accommodated. Generators are attached to the axles of the wagon. A combination of the upward force from the balloons and sideward force of the wind causes the cable to be at an angle of about 45 degrees. The umbrellas open by wind action and then provide a tractive force for the wagon, which then rolls up or down its track. With no wind, the umbrellas close and the cable is in neutral position.
