An apparatus for the conservative treatment of persons having acute and/or chronic pain in the lumbar region of the vertebral column has a frame consisting of two pairs of supports (1, 2) and carrying splints (3) arranged parallel to one another, in which a lower leg support is displaceably guided. The inclination of the splints (3), and hence of the lower leg support (4), is such that this lower leg support encloses an angle (z) of between 120 DEG and 130 DEG with a vertical. By adjustment of the lower leg support (4) in the splints (3), this lower leg support can be brought into position, as a function of the size of the person to be treated, in which the distance (x) of the pelvis of this person from the resting surface formed by the floor of a room is between 10 and 30 cm.
