The invention relates to a process for the detection of a new hypervariable region in a DNA sequence, characterised in that it comprises the following steps: (a) the preparation of polynucleotides each consisting of any oligonucleotide, comprising from 5 to 20 bases, repeated from 5 to 100 times; (b) the exploration of a genomic library by hybridisation under weakly stringent conditions with polynucleotides prepared in (a) and labelled; (c) the analysis by the Southern method of the clones having reacted with the polynucleotides; (d) the purification and optional labelling of the restriction fragments detected by the polynucleotides; (e) the analysis by the Southern method of the genomic DNA of non-related individuals having reacted under highly stringent hybridisation conditions with the restriction fragments obtained in (d), and the selection of the restriction fragments corresponding to new hypervariable regions. The invention also relates to nucleotide sequences for the identification, by hybridisation, of a hypervariable region detected by the preceding process, as well as their biological applications.
