The plant comprises a furnace (1) with its outlet connected to a lower chamber (6) equipped with a bath in which the contents are maintained in a molten state by a flame from a burner (8) fed with a liquid fuel and a gas which is fed through a pre-heater (3,22) with an auxiliary burner. Both burners can be fed with fuel from the same liquid fuel tank (9). The bath of molten material has an overflow (7) situated on its side closest to the burner (8), and the lower chamber (6) has an horizontal axis, with the burner situated at one end of it. The furnace outlet (4) feeds into the upper part (6) of the chamber, and the horizontal length of the outlet is under a fifth of the length of the chamber. The burner (8) can be fuelled by combustible waste material. ADVANTAGE - Higher thermal efficiency.
