A Chinese pictograph or graphic generating device (2) mounted on a printer port (11) has a modular design which avoids the need to change the printer port interface of a personal computer (1) and printer (3). The PC can cause generation of pictographs or graphics which can be sent back to the printer port of the PC (1). Thus, the PC (1) can read out the required pictures or graphics from its printer port (11). The PC also can order the printer (3) to print the data. IMAGE
