PURPOSE:To improve the surface strippability and wear resistance of a roll and to extend the life thereof by polishing and dulling a roll surface then coating a composite material having excellent surface stripability and wear resistance onto such surface and plating Cr onto the surface of the composite material. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a roll base material 1 is dulled and thereafter the composite material 2 (thermally spraying material of Cr carbide, W carbide, etc.) having the excellent surface strippability and wear resistance is coated thereon and further the Cr is plated 3 thereto. The Cr plating 3 in the peak parts on the surface is stripped and worn and the internal composite material 2 is exposed to the surface to provide the wear resistance if such composite roll is used. The life of the roll is thus extended. The transfer of foreign matter to a strip by sticking and intrusion is prevented as well.
