PURPOSE:To enable an intake inertia effect to be effectively utilized to a maximum limit, by setting a communication distance between a volume spread part, provided in an intake passage, and intake ports in a relation to a rated speed. CONSTITUTION:In a rotary piston engine, its intake is inducted from only the first intake port 21 in a low load operation region further from the second intake port 22 in an intermediate load operation or a low speed and high load operation region still further from the third intake port 23 in a high speed and high load operation region. And the first intake main pipe 31 and the second intake main pipe 32, which are connected in common with these intake ports, join in the upstream side of intake forming a confluent part 30 as a volume spread part. Here lengths l1, l2 and l3 of passages, reaching the confluent part 30 from the first, second and third intake ports 21, 22 and 23, are set so as to satisfy a predetermined formula as shown respectively by a rated speed, close timing of the intake port and acoustic velocity.
