PURPOSE: To reduce burden on the driver and prevent accident by furnishing soon-after-passage space sensors in the vicinity of a place at soon-after-passage of a railroad crossing, calculating the length of a space admitting advance of a vehicle ahead of the crossing, transmitting a signal to a vehicle stopping a the line before the crossing, and allowing the vehicle receiving the signal to compare the vehicle length with the space length and to judge if it should pass the crossing. ;CONSTITUTION: Soon-after-passage space sensors 1, 11 are furnished in the vicinity of a place at soon-after-passage of a railroad crossing to sense how much space exists ahead of the crossing which admits advancing of a vehicle and the result is fed to transmitters 3, 31. Signals from train approach sensors 3, 31 are also fed to the transmitters 3, 31. On the basis of this fed information, the transmitters 3, 31 calculate the empty size and judges whether or not a train is approaching. The result is given to vehicle 200, 201 stopping at the stop line. The cars 200, 201 receive the information, compare with the size of the vehicle themselves, and judge whether or not they can pass the crossing and also check if any train is approaching.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
