METHOD FOR EXCAVATING INCLINED SHAFT TUNNEL

PURPOSE: To make it possible to form a tunnel having an elliptical section extended in a horizontal direction by excavating under conditions that the cutter surface of a cutter drum is held vertically or is held with the top of the cutter surface tilted forward. ;CONSTITUTION: A tilting cylinder 26 is contracted and a cutter drum 10 is held vertically and further a gripper cylinder 31 is extended so that a gripper 30 is fixed with respect to the wall of a shaft. Next, the drum 10 is rotationally driven so that the drum 10 is advanced by means of a thrust cylinder 24 to effect excavation. After excavating a predetermined span, a rear support 23 is extended to make it possible to support a main frame 20, following which the cylinder 31 is contracted to release the fixed gripper 30. And the thrust cylinder 24 is contracted to move the gripper 30 to its initial position, thereby making the gripper ready for the next excavation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
