PURPOSE: To enable highly accurate detection of CO by providing a catalytic layer, changing CO gas into methane or methanol, and detecting CO gas concentration indirectly from its concentration. ;CONSTITUTION: It is detected by electrode leads 8 and 9 that the resistant values of metallic oxide semi-conductors 6 and 7 heated to 300 to 450°C varies by adsorption of gas on the surface of them. For example, when SiO2 or Al2O3 as acid carrier is used, hydrocarbon such as methane, etc., is generated through the cutting of carbon-oxygen bond of adsorped CO. Then the concentration of the CO gas is converted into CH4 concentration by an output conversion from an output to the product CH4 in a CO gas detecting device with a catalytic layer in which methane is generated, and converted into CO concentration by multiplying CH4 concentration by a conversion factor K4 in a concentration conversion circuit.
