PURPOSE: To provide the optical address type spatial optical modulator by which the phase modulation and intensity modulation of a large dynamic range are obtd. with simple constitution. ;CONSTITUTION: Respective layers described below are formed successively from a writing side (address light side) to a reading out side. An ITO film 2 is formed as a transparent electrode and a photoconductive layer 3 as an address material layer on the inner side of a glass substrate 1 on the front surface. Further, a light shielding layer 11, a dielectric mirror 4 and an oriented layer 5 are formed. A liquid crystal layer 9 injected with a nematic liquid crystal of an ECB type as the optically modulating material layer. is formed next to the oriented layer 5 and further, an oriented layer 8 and an ITO film 7 follow and a glass substrate 6 on the reading out side surface is obtd. An AC voltage is impressed between the ITO films 2 and 7 from a power source 10. As a result, the phase modulation of the wide dynamic range is obtd.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
