PURPOSE: To obtain an optically active α-(p-chlorophenyl)ethylamine in a simple process and high yield using an optically active p-chloromandelic acid as an optical resolving agent. ;CONSTITUTION: (±)-α-(p-Chlorophenyl)ethylamine (CPEA) is made to react with an optically active p-chloromandelic acid (CMA) in a solvent, preferably methanol to form (+)-CPEA.(-)-CMA and/or (-)-CPEA.(+)-CMA which is a diastereomeric salt. Then the diastereomeric salt is selectively deposited from the solvent to separate the diastereomeric salt and the separated diastereomeric salt is decomposed to recover the optically active CPEA.
