This invention provides a method of inhibiting aromatase and treating of estrogen-dependent diseases in a patient by administering azole derivatives as nonsteroidal inhibitors. The azole derivative has the formula where R₁ is a hydrogen or a (c₁-c₅) alkyl;R₂ is a hydrogen or a (c₁-c₅) alkyl;R₃ is any of a halogen,a (c₁-c₅) alkyl, a halo(C₁-C₅)alkyl, a phenyl, a cyano or a nitro ; n is 0 to 5 ; and Y is a nitrogen atom or CH.
