METHOD OF AND APPARATUS FOR FINE, VERY FINE, AND MICROFINE COMMINUTION OF MATERIALS HAVING BRITTLE BEHAVIOR

A friable material (1) is crushed in bulk so as to obtain a bed of aggregates by compression between two hard and non-elastic surfaces at a pressure of at least 50 MPa. In order to reduce the energy requirements and the use of machines necessary for obtaining fine, superfine and microfine aggregates, the bed of agglomerates is subjected to the repeated action of pistons (4) in different directions and, at least in part, in sequential order. This constraint is preferably achieved by groups of two opposed pistons (4) offset relative to each other at a certain angle and acting one after the other. The stress is repeated along another plane of the crushing chamber. The water crushing takes place in a closed crushing chamber, from which the liquid expelled from the interstices between the agglomerates during crushing can be discharged through at least one opening of narrow section.
