The invention relates to cloned genes, or degenerate variants thereof, which encode a molecule of endothelial-leukocyte adhesion-1 (ELAM-1), or fragments thereof. Such fragments can be leukocytes or complement binding. The invention also relates to cloned genes coding for fusion proteins comprising ELAM. The invention also relates to vectors containing the cloned genes of the invention, hosts transformed with the vectors and the protein products are expressed. The invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising the expressed proteins. The invention also relates to methods for the treatment of inflammation, post-reperfusion injury, bacterial infections, vasculitis, as well as leukemia inhibitory methods of metastatic development of tumor cells by administering the pharmaceutical compositions.
