The invention relates to a capacitive discharge ignition system incorporating a passive network with two terminals for controlling the discharge of a capacitive device for energy storage in a spark plug; the network comprises a semiconductor switch for alternately opening ohmic paths up and down between the two terminals, thereby selectively connecting the capacitive energy storage device to the spark plug. The passive network includes means responsive to a predetermined value of a voltage difference (DELTAV) between the two terminals in order to perform the switching of the path between the two terminals opened by the semiconductor switch from a high ohmic value to a low ohmic value, thereby controlling the discharge of the capacitive device for accumulation of energy in the spark plug. In the illustrated embodiment, the semiconductor switch is a series of thyristors (SCR), whose each anode is connected to the thyristor trigger input by means of a four-layer diode (BOD).
