The bed instrument panel display 20 has a display source 20 and reflective elements 24,26. The display source 22 generates an image containing beam 28 to be viewed. The reflective elements 24,26 receive the beam and provide a virtual image of the beam's image. The virtual image is focused on the viewing plane to make use of the focus shift of the eye between the virtual image and the distant object at a selected actual virtual distance away from the user. The folding nature of the optical system provides a small package suitable for installation in an automotive instrument panel.
