The mechanism is enclosed in a housing (1). It has a non-contact seal, formed by a labyrinth, between housing and rotating shaft. Oil drainage channels (8,9,10) extend from the outer labyrinth ring (6) into an oil collection chamber (13). Some of the axes of the channels extend pref. in a direction, which is approx. to the gravity-dependent main flow direction of the oil in oil grooves (7) in the outer ring. Surfaces of grooves and channels merge continuously. The oil collection chamber, which receives the oil, is mainly sealed relative to the housing interior. It has limited oil discharge (14), pref. at its lowest point. The channels are formed by bores, with a dia. corresp. at least to the width of the oil groove. USE/ADVANTAGE - Drive mechanism for railway locomotive uses non-contact seal, can be fitted in limited space, sealing effect is guaranteed even at higher speeds, various transmission ratios are possible.
