An endoprosthesis, esp. a joint prosthesis, of a cast Co-Cr-Mo alloy, has, at least in the region of the sliding surface of the joint, a surface coating of a Co-Cr-Mo alloy with not more than 0.1 wt.% C content, 500 microns-3 mm thick. ADVANTAGE - Abrasion in the region of the joint surface is lessened, and the load-bearing capacity is better. Mechanical properties of the prosthesis are not affected. Deep cracking of opposing polyethylene parts is avoided, and the moment of friction between alloy and polyethylene is reduced.
