Continuous monitoring of vehicle tyre pressures - using frequency generator inductively coupled to pressure and temp. sensors for error warning and pressure display at wheels
A method of electronic monitoring for the tyre pressures of a vehicle employs pressure (P) and temperature (T) sensors (4) at each wheel where digitally modulated 30 kHz carrier signals (2.1 to 2.4) are fed back to a chassis mounted carrier transceiver controller (2) by the inductively coupled transceiver coils attached respectively to the chassis (e.g. 3.1) and each wheel (e.g. 3.3). A keyboard (1) supplies the expected vehicle loading and speed which, combined with the actual tyre temperature (T), enables the controller (2) to compute a required tyre pressure for comparison with actual and any significant deviation triggers a user warning. Indicators (7) near the wheel centres employ an inverted use of the inductive coupling and signal carrier frequency shifts to display a positive (7.1) or negative (7.2) required correction. USE/ADVANTAGE - Enables warning and conveniently observable display of over/under tyre pressures on all wheels related to vehicle load, speed and temp. Eliminates dependence on service station pressure gauge.
