Ceramic material (I) comprises 35-80 wt.% MgO, 20-65 wt.% Al2O3 and opt. up to 15 wt.% impurities and/or further additives, and sintering aids, binders and aq. solvent. Also claimed are (i) sintered moulding, prepd. from (I) and having a thermal expansion coefft. of 9-13 x 10 power 6 K-1 at 20-1000 deg.C, and (ii) prodn. of the moulding by mixing and grinding the starting materials, moulding the materials and sintering at 1400-1900 deg.C. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) can be used for material of carrier elements in the prodn. of fuel cells or in hot gas regions of glass ovens or as grinding medium. (I) has good temp. resistance to temps. up to over 1000 deg.C and good thermal expansion coefft.
