Water-cooled roll for continuous slab casting installation - with stationary axle and with roll shells mounted on rolling bearings

The water-cooled roll for transporting hot products, in particular, for guiding and supporting a continuous cast slab includes a stationary axle on supports and roll shell carried by rolling bearings, with a cooling agent introduced into the annular gap between the axle and the roll shell. The roll is characterised by the following facts: (a) there is a closing plate (14) with a central hole (15) for the cooling agent entry; (b) the cooling agent reaches the annular gap (17) between the axle and ring shell via the gap (16), the axial bores (13), the gap (9), the gaps (8) in the ring (7), and the rolling bearings (5); and (c) a ring (11) faced with sealing material and pressed against the ring (7) by means of bellows (10) serves as a seal. USE/ADVANTAGE - In a continuous slab casting installation. Roll manufacturing costs are reduced. A better sealing effect is obtained in comparison with known roll designs.
