The map section (17) stored in digital form in CD-ROM shows the instantaneous position of the vehicle represented by a triangle (13), and its points of departure from and return to the digitised route (14) represented by crosses (11). The path taken between these points is displayed as a dotted line (12). The display is linked to a computer with additional random-access and mass storage, distance-measuring and direction-finding devices, a keyboard and a power supply battery. ADVANTAGE - Traversed route and instantaneous position are displayed to driver even within areas which are not stored digitally.
