To control the electrolytic silver recovery from the processing baths of a film and picture developing unit, the silver vol. in the fixing bath is determined from the width, length and density of the photo-sensitive material. This is used as an electrical signal to control the electrolyte current at the silver recovery unit. Also claimed is appts. with opto-electronic scanners to determine the width, length and density of the photo-sensitive material with an infra-red transceiver assembly (2,2',4') for the light passing through and an infra-red reflection sensor assembly (1,1'). They are arranged in series, alternately, over the passage width (6) of the assembly (3). Pref. the establishment of the silver vol. in the fixing bath and the appropriately controlled electrolyte current are achieved within 10 secs. USE/ADVANTAGE - The system is for the control of electrolytic recovery of silver in a film and picture developing unit. The amount of silver present is registered accurately, and used for the control of its recovery.
