Yawing moment compensation system when braking - has steering gear coupled to track rod solely via pressure- accumulators whose volume alteration causes track-rod movement in opposition to them
Yawing moment compensation system when braking - has steering gear coupled to track rod solely via pressure- accumulators whose volume alteration causes track-rod movement in opposition to them
The wheels in a steered pair have independently-operating anti-locking devices, difference in brake pressures causing steering adjustment in opposition to the effect of the moment. The brake pressure in each anti-locking device is fed to a pressure chamber (11) in an adjusting unit (10), the chamber being of variable volume and a wall separates the two chambers. Increase in the volume of one chamber reduces that or the other and is converted into a steering movement. The steering gear (31) is coupled to the track rod (32) solely via pressure-accumulators (13). Alteration in the volume of a chamber (11) causes movement of the track rod in relation to the steering gear in opposition to the effect of the accumulators. Each chamber can consist of a cylinder with a piston (15) working in it, this being at the end furthest from the dividing wall. A rigid coupling member (16) between the pistons holds them at a set distance apart. ADVANTAGE - Complete counteraction of yawing moment without transmitting forces to the steering column or wheel.
