The suction appts includes a pressure sensor (D) which generates a first signal in dependence on a generated actual suction pressure in the flow direction before the suction draught. A dirt sensor(d) produces a second signal for forming a desired suction pressure to be generated from the suction draught in dependence on particle quantities present. A controller (R) for controlling the suction pressure is supplied with the difference between the actual and desired suction pressure. The controller uses these values to derive an adjustment magnitude to influence the suction draught power. ADVANTAGE - Suction pressure can be increased in response to contamination quantities.
