Wound electrical capacitor with two overlaid films - having metal coatings and with separating strip of insulating material of zigzag pattern forming series of sectors

A wound type capacitor has two overlaid plastics material films (117) that have metallised surface coatings (2, 8). Between the two films, a non-metallic insulating strip (5) is formed with a zigzag pattern, having sides that are parallel with the edges of the film. The thickness of the metal segments (2', 6') are constant over the complete surface. Metallic edge strips (3) are formed along the foil. Alternative profiles may be selected for the insulating strip and the length of this is at least 120 per cent of the total length of the unit. USE/ADVANTAGE - Reduces current density and resultant warming in region of connection.
