A hydraulic or pneumatic system is presented which essentially consists of at least one pressure source (1), at least one pressure sink (2), at least one consumer (3), a first line (4) between the pressure source (1) and the consumer (3), which line (4) can be blocked or choked at at least one point (first control valve 8), and a second line (5) between the pressure sink (2) and the consumer (3), which line (5) can be blocked or choked at at least one point (second control valve 9). Pressure surges develop in the line system upon closing or opening the first line (4) or the second line (5). Noises which are caused by the pressure surges are to be suppressed by one or more of the following measures.
