A heat exchanger has two heating zones which are assigned to the driver's and passenger's sides, consist of finned-tube blocks and open at the end into an upper and lower collecting space. Two return lines lead away from the upper collecting space, and the feed line is connected to a duct which extends on the side with the collecting space and whose two outlets are arranged in the region of predetermined heating tubes. Even given periodically recurring slight flows of heat-carrying medium, a pleasant temperature stratification is achieved in the heat exchanger when the duct connected to the feed line is arranged in the lower collecting space and when the duct located in the upper, centrally split collecting space is subdivided centrally by a partition into two duct halves from which a return line leads away respectively. Inlet and outlet are respectively situated approximately at right angles to one another.
