The system utilises a guide track with a magnetic conductive rail (7) and a vehicle suspension element (4) with a magnetic conductive core (5). Parts of the core face the rail and are separated from the rail by a gap. A superconductive coil (8) surrounds the core so as to induce a magnetic field in the core. This causes the core to be drawn to the rail and the width of the gap between the two to be reduced when there is an electrical current in the coil. ADVANTAGE - Combines advantages of German EMS-System and Japanese EDS-System utilising superconductive technology enabling external field strengths to be reduced.
