A binder combination comprises a component with film-forming temp. above 60 deg. C, a further wax- and/or paraffin-contg. component of melting range above 60 deg. C and opt. also emulsifiers as well as auxiliaries and carriers, with the proviso that when the wax or paraffin component is of concn. 3-10 wt.% (based on non-volatile components) then the total emulsifier concn. must be below 2 wt.% on same basis. The film-former component is pref. based on (meth)acrylates (or esters, nitriles or amides), vinyl acetate, styrene, butadiene, vinyl propionate, isobutene, polyurethane and/or vinylidenes. The wax component is based on paraffin, montan wax (acid or ester), polyethylene wax and/or natural wax and/or mixts. with emulsifiers. USE/ADVANTAGE - The binder combination is used in the coating of substrates (esp. paper, wood (chips), paper, cardboard, fleeces, or metal or plastics (film), in the conservation of documents and in chipboard prodn. (claimed). Calender coating is simplified and opt. speeded up by using the specified binder combination.
