The hitherto known free-standing ladders can only be used occasionally on uneven ground, using auxiliary means. Furthermore, access to upper room corners is difficult using these ladders. The novel ladder is intended to solve these problems without a high degree of outlay. The three-point bearing (10) and the variable-length standing foot (1, 6) make it possible to use the ladder on uneven ground. It is perfectly possible to use steps, inter alia, as bearing point. By virtue of the variable-length standing foot, a corresponding set-up angle can be achieved, which makes it possible to provide access to upper room corners without any difficulty, without the ladder making contact with the walls.
