Use of citrulline malate for prepn. of medicaments - for treating disorders associated with chronic obstructive airway disease or mitochondrial myopathy

The use of L-citrulline maleate (I) is claimed for prepn. of a medicament for curative treatment of weight loss and accummulation of intramuscular fatty deposits in patients with chronic obstructive airway disease (COAD). Also claimed is the use of (I) for prepn. of a medicament for curative treatment of mitochondrial myopathies, e.g. Reye-Johnson disease. USE - The medicament for COAD treatment is administered at a dose of 2-8 ampoules a day for 3-18 months. Each sample contains 2g of a 50% soln. of (I), 0.1g sangria orange flavour, purified water and sufficient NaOH to give a pH of 3.3 In an example, a COAD patient whose weight had decreased from 67kg to 53kg over 10 years was given 6 ampoules a day for 1 year. This resulted in a weight gain of 12kg and the elimination of fatty deposits in the soleus muscle.
