摘要
Sterilisation of blood from patients with a bacterial, parasitic or viral infection, e.g. AIDS, or malaria, is effected circulating the blood in a closed circuit and subjecting it to a 3-stage treatment comprising: (1) UV irradiation; (2) UV irradiation in contact with a sterilising gas, also circulating in a closed circuit; and (3) UV irradiation. Also claimed is appts. for carrying out the process, comprising a tube (T1) branching into a series of horizontal small-bore tubes (T2) which region into a single tube (T3) leading to an inlet (E) equipped with two valves (A1 and A2) for introducing a suitable vol. of blood from the patient into a sterilisation chamber (ST), which is connected to a gas tank (G1) via a gas inlet line controlled by a valve (C1) and a gas outlet line controlled by a valve (C2) and a pump (P1). The chamber is equipped with a manometer (M) for monitoring the gas pressure, and has an outlet (P) controlled by two valves (B1 and B2) and leading to reservoir for reinjecting the blood into the patient. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is useful for extracorporeal treatment or prophylaxis of bacterial, parasitic or viral infections. The treatment inactivates or attenuates the pathogens and stimulates the immune system without drug resistance problems.
