PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of removing contaminants by suspending plural sensors at intervals in a well provided in a contaminated area to detect contaminated layers, and providing suction wells for each contaminated layer to suck the contaminants. CONSTITUTION:A first suction well 1 is provided at a highly concentrated part in an organic compound-contaminated area, and plural groups 2, 3, 4 of observation wells are arranged around the first suction well in a radial manner to take the samples of layers. Then, detecting sensors are suspended in the well 1 at fixed intervals to detect contaminant-stagnated layers. Thereafter, suction pipes are arranged in the wells 2-4 for each layer from which contaminants must be removed, and the air sampled from the pipes is checked to survey the contaminated state for each layer. Suction wells 1a-1d are then provided for each contaminated layer in the neighborhood of the well 1 to exhaust contaminants, and the contaminant-removed state is observed by means of the wells 2-4. If obstruction exist, inclined wells 1a-1d can be provided, or hot air can be sent from the wells 3-4. The contaminants can thus be effectively removed, and the operating efficiency can be substantially improved.
