PURPOSE: To obtain an easy disintegrability imparter, comprising a PVA-based polymer having a specific polymerization degree and a specified distribution thereof and useful as a compounding ingredient for a thermoplastic resin capable of imparting excellent biodegradability, moldability and mechanical strength to the thermoplastic resin such as a polyolefin resin. ;CONSTITUTION: This easy disintegrability imparter comprises a PVA-based polymer having ≤50 weight-average polymerization degree (Pm) and ≤1.3 ratio (Pm/Pm) of the Pw to the number-average polymerization degree (Pn). The PVA- based polymer is obtained by polymerizing, e.g. benzyl vinyl ether at ≤0°C solvent of toluene using trifluoroacetic acid as a polymerization catalyst, ethylaluminum dichloride as an initiator and ethyl acetate as an additive to obtain polybenzyl vinyl ether and then treating the resultant ether with a solution prepared by adding metallic Na to liquid ammonia.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
