PURPOSE:To suppress thermal displacement so as to improve accuracy of machining by operating a machine tool according to necessity by providing a cooling means and a heating means at the main shaft head, column and the like of the tool. CONSTITUTION:A heating means 15 and a cooling means 16 are arranged at a bed 1, column 3 and main shaft head 4, and the means 15 is connected to a heating source 17 and used as an electric heater. A cooling means 16 is connected to a cooling source 18 and is adapted to pass a coolant through a pipe. This gas is supplied to the source 18. When a temperature sensor 21 measures the room temperature of a workshop, the temperature information is sent to a control unit 20, and whereat, controlling of the sources 17, 18 are performed in accordance with ambient temperature change in the room of workshop.
