PREPARATION:Ascorbic acid is ketalized by a conventional procedure to give 6-O-isopropylideneascorbic acid shown by formula II, which is reacted with an organic halide shown by formula R1-X (X is halogen) and dehydrohalogenated to give a compound shown by formula III. This compound is treated with an acid such as hydrochloric acid in a mixed solvent such as preferably tetrahydrofuran-methanol and dioxolan ring is subjected to ring formation and bisglycol group is formed to give a compound shown by formula I.
