PURPOSE:To automatically generate a proper translated composite word by generating a translated word of one processing unit based on word appearance, a part of speech, meaning, and relations to the other nouns of each noun as an element of a composite noun and synthesizing translated words. CONSTITUTION:When a composite noun is inputted, a composite noun analyzer 7 refers to a composite word translation table 12 to determine qualification, relation, and translation patterns of processing units in the composite noun. A partial result translator 8 refers to a translation dictionary 13 to translate units in accordance with translation patterns and outputs results to a buffer 9. A synthesizing device 10 synthesizes results by a prescribed synthesizing method to output a final composite noun in the objective language. Thus, a proper translated composite noun is generated without manual operations.
