PURPOSE:To simplify a conveying device and facilitate control by providing a conveying means which carries out an intermittent feed for a certain distance and a holding means for holding a workpiece in a position not interfering during machining, in a transfer machine having machine tools the operating ranges of which are different. CONSTITUTION:When a workpiece 1 is placed on a work fixing cradle 111 in (1) by a prior conveying means and, then, as a rod 106 is moved in the A direction by means of a lifting cylinder 108, a conveying bar 101 is pushed up by means of lifting arms 103a-103d and, with the longitudinal direction being restricted by a lift up-down guide part 122 and the bar 101 is lifted up in this position, and the workpiece 1 is positioned by a claw 101a and lifted up above the position of a work fixing cradle. Then a rod 121 is moved by the interval between work fixing cradles by means of a cylinder 120. And, as the rod 106 is moved leftward by the lifting cylinder 108, the workpiece 1 is lowered as it is and placed on the work fixing cradle. When a workpiece in (3) is machined by a milling machine 10, the workpiece in (2) is positioned and held in a place lower than the operating range.
