DECOLORATION OF AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF ALKALI METAL AMINOETHANE SULFONATE OR ALKALI METAL N-SUBSTITUTED AMINO ETHANESULFONATE

PURPOSE: To provide a decoloration process giving a colorless and clear aqueous solution of taurine alkali metal salt of high degree of purification from which the contaminants such as alkali metal chlorides as by-products are removed and by which decoloration of the solution can be attained through simplified process. ;CONSTITUTION: A discolored aqueous solution of an unsaturated or saturated alkali metal aminoethanesulfonate or an alkyl-N-substituted aminoethanesulfonate containing alkali metal chloride is brought into contact with a chelate resin to remove metal ions dissolving in the solution such as iron by adsorption to effect decoloration of solution and the removal of chloride salts as contaminants simultaneously. At this time, the decolored solution is concentration by evaporating water under reduced pressure so that the boiling point of the solution to be condensed may not exceed 110°C to prevent the alkali metal aminoethanesulfonate or an alkyl-N-substituted aminoethane- sulfonate from deterioration and coloration.
